A. Dates and Application Fees

Intermedite Divison: CAD $175/team

B. Prizes

  • First Place: $300 and Certificate
  • Second Place: $200 and Certificate
  • Third Place: $100 and Certificate
  • First Place: CAD $800 and certificate 
  • Second Place: CAD $600 and certificate
  • Third Place: CAD $400 and certificate
  • Potential for Honourable Mention Certificates
  • First Place: CAD $1500 and certificate
  • Second Place: CAD $1000 and certificate
  • Third Place: CAD $500 and certificate
  • Honourable Mention Certificates

Please note that the jury has the right to withhold any prize and/or award. The decision of the jury is final. 

First prize winners may be approached to perform in a special concert/recital within a 12 month period of the competition.

C. Categories and Eligibility

Age averaging is not allowed. If two candidates of different age fall into different divisions (eg: A 10 year old and a 13 year old) they are required to apply into the higher division. In this example, the duo will be required to enter the intermediate division.

D. Repertoire for the Junior Division

Any published arrangements and transcriptions are permitted. Program can include include selections for four, six or eight hands for one or two pianos.

Maximum performance time: 10 minutes

Note: Choice and level of difficulty is discretionary, but may be a factor in deciding the winning entry.

E. Repertoire for the Intermediate Division

Any published arrangements and transcriptions are permitted. Program can include include selections for four, six or eight hands for one or two pianos.

Maximum performance time: 12 minutes

Note: Choice and level of difficulty is discretionary, but may be a factor in deciding the winning entry.

F. Repertoire for the Senior Division

Any published arrangements and transcriptions are permitted. Program can include include selections for four, six or eight hands for one or two pianos.

Maximum performance time: 20 minutes (including the Required work)

Judges reserve the right to choose works to be performed from your repertoire list provided.

G. Notes for All Divisions

In choosing the program, the competitors are advised to program works of different styles and periods, such as classic, romantic and contemporary works.

Repeats are not required, but Da Capo’s must be played

H. Memory

As in all chamber music competitions and performance, although memory is not required, it is certainly recommended.

All the participants must obey copyright restrictions in using musical scores

The form must be submitted and application fee paid no later than November 1st, 2024

K. Jury

The jury panel is composed of internationally acclaimed musicians. All decisions by the jury are final.

L. Other General Rules and Regulations

By participating in the Competition all the participants agree to give the NWPES the right to use submitted recordings for promotional reasons

No payment will be given to any competitor for performance of recordings.

A first place winning team may not participate in the same competition category twice in a row
